RHEL 6 : postgresql (Unpatched Vulnerability)

high Nessus Plugin ID 198784

Synopsis

The remote Red Hat 6 host is affected by multiple vulnerabilities that will not be patched.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 6 host has one or more packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities that have been acknowledged by the vendor but will not be patched.

- postgresql: Start scripts permit database administrator to modify root-owned files (CVE-2017-15097)

- postgresql: Uncontrolled search path element in pg_dump and other client applications (CVE-2018-1058)

- The make check command for the test suites in PostgreSQL 9.3.3 and earlier does not properly invoke initdb to specify the authentication requirements for a database cluster to be used for the tests, which allows local users to gain privileges by leveraging access to this cluster. (CVE-2014-0067)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied on the package manager's report that the package is installed.

Solution

The vendor has acknowledged the vulnerabilities but no solution has been provided. Refer to the vendor for remediation guidance.
