Synopsis

The remote Red Hat 6 host is affected by multiple vulnerabilities that will not be patched.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 6 host has one or more packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities that have been acknowledged by the vendor but will not be patched.

- fontforge: Command injetion in help function uiutil.c (CVE-2017-17521)

- Stack-based buffer overflow in FontForge 20100501 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a long CHARSET_REGISTRY header in a BDF font file. (CVE-2010-4259)

- FontForge 20161012 is vulnerable to a heap-based buffer over-read in PSCharStringToSplines (psread.c) resulting in DoS or code execution via a crafted otf file. (CVE-2017-11568)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied on the package manager's report that the package is installed.

Solution

The vendor has acknowledged the vulnerabilities but no solution has been provided. Refer to the vendor for remediation guidance.
