PHTN-67-000105 - The Photon operating system must not respond to IPv4 Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echoes sent to a broadcast address.

Information

Responding to broadcast (ICMP) echoes facilitates network mapping and provides a vector for amplification attacks.

Solution

Open /etc/sysctl.conf with a text editor.

Add or update the following line:

net.ipv4.icmp_echo_ignore_broadcasts=1

Run the following command to load the new setting:

# /sbin/sysctl --load
