7 - Secure installation on Solaris.

Information

BIND 9 is available and supported by default in the Solaris Operating System.

Rationale:

SUN provides support for the Solaris 10 OS and should be used for maintaining the core applications like BIND.

NOTE: Nessus has not performed this check. Please review the benchmark to ensure target compliance.

Solution

The software is found in the package, SUNWbind, and the Solaris 10 Service Management Facility ('SMF') service manifest for the BIND service is available in the SUNWbindr package. Both of these packages must be installed in order to be able to configure and run the DNS server service. The SMF Fault Management Resource Identifier ('FMRI') for the BIND service is svc:/network/dns/server:default. It is with this handle (or a suitable abbreviation such as dns/server) that one will be able to configure and manage the DNS server service using SMF.
