Buffer overflow in Cscope 15.5, and possibly multiple overflows, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a C file with a long #include line that is later browsed by the target.

The remote Oracle Linux 5 host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ELSA-2009-1102 advisory.

Jason Duell discovered that cscope, a source code browsing tool, does not verify the length of file names sourced in include statements, which may potentially lead to the execution of arbitrary code through specially crafted source code files.

The remote host is affected by the vulnerability described in GLSA-200606-10 (Cscope: Many buffer overflows)

    Cscope does not verify the length of file names sourced in     #include statements.
  Impact :

    A user could be enticed to source a carefully crafted file which     will allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code with the permissions     of the user running Cscope.
  Workaround :

    There is no known workaround at this time.

Jason Duell reports :

Cscope contains an alarming number of buffer overflow vulnerabilities.
By a rough count, there are at least 48 places where we blindly sprintf() a file name into a fixed-length buffer of size PATHLEN without checking to see if the file's name is <= PATHLEN. We do similar things with environment variable values.
