The TIFFExtractData macro in LibTIFF before 3.9.4 does not properly handle unknown tag types in TIFF directory entries, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and application crash) via a crafted TIFF file.

The libtiff packages contain a library of functions for manipulating Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) files.

Multiple integer overflow flaws, leading to a buffer overflow, were discovered in libtiff. An attacker could use these flaws to create a specially crafted TIFF file that, when opened, would cause an application linked against libtiff to crash or, possibly, execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2010-1411)

LibTIFF 3.9.4 and earlier does not properly handle an invalid td_stripbytecount field, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and application crash) via a crafted TIFF file, a different vulnerability than CVE-2010-2443 (CVE-2010-2482).

The updated packages have been patched to correct these issues.
