Double free vulnerability in the ssl3_get_key_exchange function in the OpenSSL client (ssl/s3_clnt.c) in OpenSSL 1.0.0a, 0.9.8, 0.9.7, and possibly other versions, when using ECDH, allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted private key with an invalid prime. NOTE: some sources refer to this as a use-after-free issue.

The remote VMware ESX / ESXi host is missing a security-related patch.
It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities, including remote code execution vulnerabilities, in several third-party components and libraries :

  - Apache Tomcat 
  - Apache Tomcat Manager
  - cURL 
  - Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
  - Kernel 
  - Microsoft SQL Express
  - OpenSSL
  - pam_krb5

Specially crafted responses from SSL servers could cause a double-free bug in openssl's client implementation. Malicious servers could exploit that to crash programs use openssl for the SSL connection (CVE-2010-2939).

According to its banner, the remote server is running a version of OpenSSL that is earlier than 0.9.8p / 1.0.0e. 

A remote attacker could crash client software when using ECDH.  The impact of this vulnerability is not clear; arbitrary code could be run too. 

Note that OpenSSL changelog only reports a fix for 0.9.8p.  1.0.0a is definitely vulnerable.  Gentoo reports a fix for 1.0.0e but it covers other flaws.NVD reports 0.9.7 as vulnerable too but does not give any fixed version.

The remote host is affected by the vulnerability described in GLSA-201110-01 (OpenSSL: Multiple vulnerabilities)

    Multiple vulnerabilities have been discovered in OpenSSL. Please review       the CVE identifiers referenced below for details.
  Impact :

    A context-dependent attacker could cause a Denial of Service, possibly       execute arbitrary code, bypass intended key requirements, force the       downgrade to unintended ciphers, bypass the need for knowledge of shared       secrets and successfully authenticate, bypass CRL validation, or obtain       sensitive information in applications that use OpenSSL.
  Workaround :

    There is no known workaround at this time.

According to the web server's banner, the version of HP System Management Homepage (SMH) hosted on the remote host is earlier than 6.3.  Such versions are reportedly affected by the following vulnerabilities :

  - An error exists in the function 'fnmatch' in the     bundled version of PHP that can lead to stack     exhaustion. (CVE-2010-1917)

  - An information disclosure vulnerability exists in the     'var_export' function in the bundled version of PHP     that can be triggered when handling certain error     conditions. (CVE-2010-2531)

  - A double free vulnerability in the     'ssl3_get_key_exchange()' function in the third-party     OpenSSL library could be abused to crash the     application. (CVE-2010-2939)

  - A format string vulnerability in the phar extension     in the bundled version of PHP could lead to the     disclosure of memory contents and possibly allow     execution of arbitrary code via a specially crafted     'phar://' URI. (CVE-2010-2950)

  - A NULL pointer dereference in     'ZipArchive::getArchiveComment' included with the     bundled version of PHP can be abused to crash the     application. (CVE-2010-3709)

  - The bundled version of libxml2 may read from invalid     memory locations when processing malformed XPath     expressions, resulting in an application crash.

  - An error in the 'mb_strcut()' function in the bundled     version of PHP can be exploited by passing a large     'length' parameter to disclose potentially sensitive     information from the heap. (CVE-2010-4156)

a. vCenter Server and vCenter Update Manager update Microsoft    SQL Server 2005 Express Edition to Service Pack 3

   Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (SQL Express)    distributed with vCenter Server 4.1 Update 1 and vCenter Update    Manager 4.1 Update 1 is upgraded from  SQL Express Service Pack 2    to SQL Express Service Pack 3, to address multiple security    issues that exist in the earlier releases of Microsoft SQL Express.

   Customers using other database solutions need not update for    these issues.

b. vCenter Apache Tomcat Management Application Credential Disclosure

   The Apache Tomcat Manager application configuration file contains    logon credentials that can be read by unprivileged local users.

   The issue is resolved by removing the Manager application in    vCenter 4.1 Update 1.

   If vCenter 4.1 is updated to vCenter 4.1 Update 1 the logon    credentials are not present in the configuration file after the    update.

Specially crafted responses from SSL servers could cause a double-free bug in openssl's client implementation. Malicious servers could exploit that to crash programs use openssl for the SSL connection (CVE-2010-2939). This has been fixed.

New openssl packages are available for Slackware 11.0, 12.0, 12.1, 12.2, 13.0, 13.1, and -current to fix security issues.

It was discovered that OpenSSL incorrectly handled return codes from the bn_wexpand function calls. A remote attacker could trigger this flaw in services that used SSL to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code with application privileges. This issue only affected Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, 8.04 LTS, 9.04 and 9.10.
(CVE-2009-3245)

It was discovered that OpenSSL incorrectly handled certain private keys with an invalid prime. A remote attacker could trigger this flaw in services that used SSL to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code with application privileges. The default compiler options for affected releases should reduce the vulnerability to a denial of service. (CVE-2010-2939).

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

A vulnerability has been found and corrected in openssl :

George Guninski discovered a double free in the ECDH code of the OpenSSL crypto library, which may lead to denial of service and potentially the execution of arbitrary code.
