sp5xdec.c in the Sunplus SP5X JPEG decoder in libavcodec in FFmpeg before 0.6.3 and libav through 0.6.2, as used in VideoLAN VLC media player 1.1.9 and earlier and other products, performs a write operation outside the bounds of an unspecified array, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a malformed AMV file.

If a user were tricked into opening a crafted AMV file, an attacker could cause a denial of service via application crash, or possibly execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user invoking the program. (CVE-2011-1931)

Emmanouel Kellinis discovered that Libav incorrectly handled certain malformed CAVS files. If a user were tricked into opening a crafted CAVS file, an attacker could cause a denial of service via application crash, or possibly execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user invoking the program. The version of VLC media player installed on the remote Windows host is prior to 1.1.10. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities:

  - A denial of service (DoS) vulnerability exists in VideoLAN VLC media player before 1.1.10.     An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this issue, via a malformed AMV file, to cause a denial of     service (memory corruption) or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2011-1931).

  - A denial of service (DoS) vulnerability exists in VideoLAN VLC media player before 1.1.10 due to integer     overflow in XSPF playlist parser. An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this issue, via     unspecified vectors that trigger a heap-based buffer overflow to cause a denial of service     (memory corruption) or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2011-2194).

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.
