The make_temporary_filename function in perltidy 20120701-1 and earlier allows local users to obtain sensitive information or write to arbitrary files via a symlink attack, related to use of the tmpnam function.

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 6 host has one or more packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities that have been acknowledged by the vendor but will not be patched.

  - perltidy: insecure temporary file creation (CVE-2014-2277)

  - perltidy through 20160302, as used by perlcritic, check-all-the-things, and other software, relies on the     current working directory for certain output files and does not have a symlink-attack protection     mechanism, which allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files by creating a symlink, as demonstrated by     creating a perltidy.ERR symlink that the victim cannot delete. (CVE-2016-10374)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied on the package manager's report that the package is installed.

It was discovered that perltidy's make_temporary_filename() function insecurely created temporary files via the use of the tmpnam() function. A local attacker could use this flaw to perform a symbolic link attack.

Update to 20130922, apply fix for CVE-2014-2277.
