Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in phpMyAdmin 4.0.x before 4.0.10.6, 4.1.x before 4.1.14.7, and 4.2.x before 4.2.12 allow remote authenticated users to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a crafted (1) database, (2) table, or (3) column name that is improperly handled during rendering of the table browse page; a crafted ENUM value that is improperly handled during rendering of the (4) table print view or (5) zoom search page; or (6) a crafted pma_fontsize cookie that is improperly handled during rendering of the home page.

Several issues have been fixed in phpMyAdmin, the web administration tool for MySQL.

phpMyAdmin was updated to fix four security issues.

For openSUSE 12.3 and 13.1, phpMyAdmin was updated to 4.1.14.7. For openSUSE 13.2, phpMyAdmin was updated to to 4.2.12.

These security issues were fixed :

  - XSS vulnerability in error reporting functionality     (CVE-2014-8960).

  - Local file inclusion vulnerability (CVE-2014-8959).

  - Multiple XSS vulnerabilities (CVE-2014-8958).

  - Leakage of line count of an arbitrary file     (CVE-2014-8961).

According to its self-reported version number, the phpMyAdmin application hosted on the remote web server is 4.0.x prior to 4.0.10.6, 4.1.x prior to 4.1.14.7, or 4.2.x prior to 4.2.12. It is, therefore, affected by the following vulnerabilities :

  - A cross-site scripting vulnerability in the zoom search     page due to improper validation of input when handling     an ENUM value before returning it to the user. A remote     attacker, with a specially crafted request, could     potentially execute arbitrary script code within the     browser / server trust relationship. (CVE-2014-8958)

  - A cross-site scripting vulnerability in the home page     due to improper validation of input when handling a font     size before returning it to the user. A remote attacker,     with a specially crafted request, could potentially     execute arbitrary script code within the browser /     server trust relationship. (CVE-2014-8958)

  - A cross-site scripting vulnerability in the print view     page due to improper validation of input when handling     an ENUM value before returning it to the user.   - A cross-site scripting vulnerability in the table browse     page due to improper validation of input when handling     database, table, and column names before returning them     to the user. A remote attacker, with a specially crafted     request, could potentially execute arbitrary script code     within the browser / server trust relationship.

  - A local file inclusion vulnerability in the GIS editor     feature due to improperly validation of a parameter used     to specify the geometry type. This could allow a remote,     authenticated attacker to include arbitrary files from     the host, allowing disclosure of the file contents or     the execution of scripts on the host.   - A cross-site scripting vulnerability in the error     reporting page due to improper validation of filenames     before returning them to the user. This could allow a     remote attacker, with a specially crafted request, to     potentially execute arbitrary script code within the     browser / server trust relationship. (CVE-2014-8960)

  - An information disclosure vulnerability in the error     reporting feature due to improper validation of     user-supplied input. This could allow a remote,     authenticated attacker to determine a file's line count.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Multiple vulnerabilities has been discovered and corrected in phpmyadmin :

This upgrade provides the latest phpmyadmin version (4.2.12) to address these vulnerabilities.

phpMyAdmin is a free and open source tool written in PHP intended to handle the administration of MySQL with the use of a web browser. Versions of phpMyAdmin 4.0.x prior to 4.0.10.6, 4.1.x prior to 4.1.14.7 and 4.2.x prior to 4.2.12 are potentially affected by multiple vulnerabilities : 

 - Prone to multiple cross-site scripting vulnerabilities because it fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input submitted to the table browse page, table print view and zoom search pages, and home page. (PMASA-2014-13)

  - It is possible to include an arbitrary file through the GIS editor due to a lack of sanitizing user-supplied input using directory-traversal strings (../). (PMASA-2014-14)

 - Prone to a cross-site scripting vulnerability because it fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input submitted to the error_report.lib.php script. (PMASA-2014-15)

  - It is possible to obtain the line count of arbitrary files due to failure to sanitize user-supplied input submitted to the filename parameter of the error_report.lib.php script. (PMASA-2014-16)

The phpMyAdmin development team reports :

- With a crafted database, table or column name it is possible to trigger an XSS attack in the table browse page.

- With a crafted ENUM value it is possible to trigger XSS attacks in the table print view and zoom search pages.

- With a crafted value for font size it is possible to trigger an XSS attack in the home page.

These vulnerabilities can be triggered only by someone who is logged in to phpMyAdmin, as the usual token protection prevents non-logged-in users from accessing the required pages. Moreover, exploitation of the XSS vulnerability related to the font size requires forgery of the pma_fontsize cookie.

In the GIS editor feature, a parameter specifying the geometry type was not correcly validated, opening the door to a local file inclusion attack.

This vulnerability can be triggered only by someone who is logged in to phpMyAdmin, as the usual token protection prevents non-logged-in users from accessing the required page.

With a crafted file name it is possible to trigger an XSS in the error reporting page.
