curl version curl 7.54.1 to and including curl 7.59.0 contains a CWE-122: Heap-based Buffer Overflow vulnerability in denial of service and more that can result in curl might overflow a heap based memory buffer when closing down an FTP connection with very long server command replies.. This vulnerability appears to have been fixed in curl < 7.54.1 and curl >= 7.60.0.

The remote NewStart CGSL host, running version MAIN 6.02, has curl packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities:

  - The redirect implementation in curl and libcurl 5.11 through 7.19.3, when CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION is     enabled, accepts arbitrary Location values, which might allow remote HTTP servers to (1) trigger arbitrary     requests to intranet servers, (2) read or overwrite arbitrary files via a redirect to a file: URL, or (3)     execute arbitrary commands via a redirect to an scp: URL. (CVE-2012-0036)

  - Stack-based buffer overflow in the Curl_sasl_create_digest_md5_message function in lib/curl_sasl.c in curl     and libcurl 7.26.0 through 7.28.1, when negotiating SASL DIGEST-MD5 authentication, allows remote     attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a long string in     the realm parameter in a (1) POP3, (2) SMTP or (3) IMAP message. (CVE-2013-0249)

  - The tailMatch function in cookie.c in cURL and libcurl before 7.30.0 does not properly match the path     domain when sending cookies, which allows remote attackers to steal cookies via a matching suffix in the     domain of a URL. (CVE-2013-1944)

The version of Oracle Secure Global Desktop installed on the remote host is 5.3 / 5.4 and is missing a security patch from the July 2018 Critical Patch Update (CPU). It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities:

 - curl version curl 7.54.1 to and including curl 7.59.0 contains a  Heap-based Buffer Overflow vulnerability in FTP connection closing  down functionality which can lead to DoS and RCE conditions.     Dario Weisser discovered that curl incorrectly handled long FTP server command replies. If a user or     automated system were tricked into connecting to a malicious FTP server, a remote attacker could use this     issue to cause curl to crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code. This     issue only affected Ubuntu 17.10 and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. (CVE-2018-1000300)

    Max Dymond discovered that curl incorrectly handled certain RTSP responses. If a user or automated system     were tricked into connecting to a malicious server, a remote attacker could use this issue to cause curl     to crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly obtain sensitive information. cURL security problems :

CVE-2018-1000300: FTP shutdown response buffer overflow

curl might overflow a heap based memory buffer when closing down an FTP connection with very long server command replies.

When doing FTP transfers, curl keeps a spare 'closure handle' around internally that will be used when an FTP connection gets shut down since the original curl easy handle is then already removed.

FTP server response data that gets cached from the original transfer might then be larger than the default buffer size (16 KB) allocated in the 'closure handle', which can lead to a buffer overwrite. The contents and size of that overwrite is controllable by the server.

This situation was detected by an assert() in the code, but that was of course only preventing bad stuff in debug builds. This bug is very unlikely to trigger with non-malicious servers.

We are not aware of any exploit of this flaw.

CVE-2018-1000301: RTSP bad headers buffer over-read

curl can be tricked into reading data beyond the end of a heap based buffer used to store downloaded content.

When servers send RTSP responses back to curl, the data starts out with a set of headers. curl parses that data to separate it into a number of headers to deal with those appropriately and to find the end of the headers that signal the start of the 'body' part.

The function that splits up the response into headers is called Curl_http_readwrite_headers() and in situations where it can't find a single header in the buffer, it might end up leaving a pointer pointing into the buffer instead of to the start of the buffer which then later on may lead to an out of buffer read when code assumes that pointer points to a full buffer size worth of memory to use.

This could potentially lead to information leakage but most likely a crash/denial of service for applications if a server triggers this flaw.

We are not aware of any exploit of this flaw.

New curl packages are available for Slackware 14.0, 14.1, 14.2, and
-current to fix security issues.
