high Nessus Plugin ID 101006

Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security update.

Description

CVE-2017-1000381 The c-ares function ares_parse_naptr_reply(), which is used for parsing NAPTR responses, could be triggered to read memory outside of the given input buffer if the passed in DNS response packet was crafted in a particular way.

For Debian 7 'Wheezy', these problems have been fixed in version 1.9.1-3+deb7u2.

We recommend that you upgrade your c-ares packages.

NOTE: Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the DLA security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Upgrade the affected libc-ares-dev, and libc-ares2 packages.
