Ubuntu 14.04 LTS / 16.04 LTS : Bazaar vulnerability (USN-3411-1)

high Nessus Plugin ID 102976

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 14.04 LTS / 16.04 LTS host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-3411-1 advisory.

Adam Collard discovered that Bazaar did not properly handle host names in 'bzr+ssh://' URLs. A remote attacker could use this to construct a bazaar repository URL that when accessed could run arbitrary code with the privileges of the user.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected bzr, python-bzrlib and / or python-bzrlib.tests packages.
