Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 14.04 LTS / 16.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-3607-1 advisory.

It was discovered that Screen Resolution Extra was using PolicyKit in an unsafe manner. A local attacker could potentially exploit this issue to bypass intended PolicyKit authorizations.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected screen-resolution-extra package.
