LibreOffice < 5.4.6 and < 6.0.2 Heap Buffer Overflow

high Nessus Plugin ID 122586

Synopsis

An application installed on the remote host may allow attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have other unspecified impact.

Description

The LibreOffice installed on the remote host is either 5.x prior to 5.4.6 or 6.x prior to 6.0.2. A heap-based buffer overflow condition exists in The SwCTBWrapper::Read function due to improperly checking the bounds of the index into the dynamically allocated buffer. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this, via a specifically crafted word document opened by user to cause a denial of service condition or the execution of arbitrary code.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to LibreOffice version to 5.4.6, 6.0.2 or later.
