OpenVPN < 2.3.1 Information Disclosure Vulnerability (Windows)

low Nessus Plugin ID 125260

Synopsis

An application on the remote Windows host is affected by an information disclosure vulnerability.

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the version of OpenVPN installed on the remote Windows host is prior to 2.3.1. It is, therefore, affected by an information disclosure vulnerability in the crypto.c component due to its HMAC comparison function not running in constant time. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this, via a timing attack, to disclose potentially sensitive information.

Solution

Upgrade to OpenVPN 2.3.1 or later.
