RHEL 7 / 8 : ansible (RHSA-2019:1708)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 126678

Synopsis

The remote Red Hat host is missing a security update for ansible.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 7 / 8 host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the RHSA-2019:1708 advisory.

Ansible is a simple model-driven configuration management, multi-node deployment, and remote-task execution system. Ansible works over SSH and does not require any software or daemons to be installed on remote nodes.
Extension modules can be written in any language and are transferred to managed machines automatically.

The following packages have been upgraded to a newer upstream version:
ansible (2.8.2)

Security fix(es):

* ansible: unsafe template evaluation of returned module data can lead to information disclosure (CVE-2019-10156)

For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section.

Bug Fix(es):

See:
https://github.com/ansible/ansible/blob/v2.8.2/changelogs/CHANGELOG-v2.8.rst for details on bug fixes in this release.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the RHEL ansible package based on the guidance in RHSA-2019:1708.
