Debian DLA-1966-1 : aspell security update

critical Nessus Plugin ID 130072

Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security update.

Description

It was discovered that Aspell, the GNU spell checker, incorrectly handled certain inputs which leads to a stack-based buffer over-read.
An attacker could potentially access sensitive information.

For Debian 8 'Jessie', this problem has been fixed in version 0.60.7~20110707-1.3+deb8u1.

We recommend that you upgrade your aspell packages.

NOTE: Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the DLA security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Upgrade the affected packages.
