RHEL 8 : bind (RHSA-2019:3552)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 130551

Synopsis

The remote Red Hat host is missing one or more security updates for bind.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 8 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the RHSA-2019:3552 advisory.

The Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) is an implementation of the Domain Name System (DNS) protocols.
BIND includes a DNS server (named); a resolver library (routines for applications to use when interfacing with DNS); and tools for verifying that the DNS server is operating correctly.

Security Fix(es):

* bind: An assertion failure if a trust anchor rolls over to an unsupported key algorithm when using managed-keys (CVE-2018-5745)

* bind: Controls for zone transfers may not be properly applied to DLZs if the zones are writable (CVE-2019-6465)

For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section.

Additional Changes:

For detailed information on changes in this release, see the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.1 Release Notes linked from the References section.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the RHEL bind package based on the guidance in RHSA-2019:3552.
