Synopsis

A messaging security application running on the remote host is affected by an multiple vulnerabilities.

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG) running on the remote host is 10.x prior to 10.7.3. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities:

- A privilege escalation vulnerability exists in Symantec Messaging Gateway. An authenticated, remote attacker can exploit this to gain elevated access to resources that are normally protected from an application or user. (CVE-2019-18377)

 - A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists due to improper validation of user-supplied input before returning it to users. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this, by convincing a user to click a specially crafted URL, to execute arbitrary script code in a user's browser session. (CVE-2019-18378)

 - A server-side request forgery (SSRF) exists in Symantec Messaging Gateway. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this to send crafted requests from the backend server of a vulnerable web application or access services available through the loopback interface. (CVE-2019-18379)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG) version 10.7.3 or later.
