Atlassian JIRA < 7.13.9 / 8.x < 8.3.3 XSS (JRASERVER-69790)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 132724

Synopsis

The remote web server hosts a web application that is affected by a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability.

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the instance of Atlassian JIRA hosted on the remote web server is prior to 7.13.9, or 8.x prior to 8.3.3 / 8.4.0. It is, therefore, affected by a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability. The vulnerability exists in the FilterPickerPopup.jspa resource due to improper validation of user-supplied input before returning it to users. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this, via the searchOwnerUserName parameter, to execute arbitrary script code in a user's browser session.

Solution

Upgrade to Atlassian JIRA version 7.13.9 / 8.3.3 / 8.4.0
