Debian DLA-2065-1 : apache-log4j1.2 security update

critical Nessus Plugin ID 132777

Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security update.

Description

Included in Log4j 1.2, a logging library for Java, is a SocketServer class that is vulnerable to deserialization of untrusted data which can be exploited to remotely execute arbitrary code when combined with a deserialization gadget when listening to untrusted network traffic for log data.

For Debian 8 'Jessie', this problem has been fixed in version 1.2.17-5+deb8u1.

We recommend that you upgrade your apache-log4j1.2 packages.

NOTE: Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the DLA security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Upgrade the affected packages.
