Amazon Linux 2 : tcpdump (ALAS-2020-1385)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 133095

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of tcpdump installed on the remote host is prior to 4.9.2-4. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2020-1385 advisory.

In tcpdump 4.9.2, a stack-based buffer over-read exists in the print_prefix function of print-hncp.c via crafted packet data because of missing initialization. (CVE-2018-19519)

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the tested product security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update tcpdump' to update your system.
