Amazon Linux AMI : kernel (ALAS-2020-1338)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 133557

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of kernel installed on the remote host is prior to 4.14.165-102.185. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ALAS-2020-1338 advisory.

2024-05-09: CVE-2019-19965 was added to this advisory.

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. The crypto_report function mishandles resource cleanup on error. A local attacker able to induce the error conditions could use this flaw to crash the system. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to system availability. (CVE-2019-19062)

An out-of-bounds memory write issue was found in the way the Linux kernel's KVM hypervisor handled the 'KVM_GET_EMULATED_CPUID' ioctl(2) request to get CPUID features emulated by the KVM hypervisor. A user or process able to access the '/dev/kvm' device could use this flaw to crash the system, resulting in a denial of service. (CVE-2019-19332)

In the Linux kernel through 5.4.6, there is a NULL pointer dereference in drivers/scsi/libsas/sas_discover.c because of mishandling of port disconnection during discovery, related to a PHY down race condition, aka CID-f70267f379b5. (CVE-2019-19965)

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the tested product security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update kernel' to update your system.
