Junos OS: Improper handling of specific IPv6 packets (JSA10982)

high Nessus Plugin ID 133860

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the remote Juniper Junos device is affected by a denial of service vulnerability (DDOS): Specific IPv6 packets sent by clients processed by the Routing Engine (RE) are improperly handled. A remote unauthenticated attacker can exploit this by sending specfic IPv6 packets that can cause a memory leak which can lead to a distributed denial of service attack (DDOS).

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Apply the relevant Junos software release referenced in Juniper advisory JSA10982.
