Atlassian Confluence 6.14.x < 6.14.3 / 6.15.x < 6.15.5 stored cross-site-scripting (SXSS) Vulnerability

medium Nessus Plugin ID 136178

Synopsis

A web application running on the remote host is affected by a local file disclosure vulnerability

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the Atlassian Confluence application running on the remote host is 6.14.x prior to 6.14.3, or 6.15.x prior to 6.15.5. It is, therefore, affected by a stored cross-site-scripting (SXSS) vulnerability. due to improper validation of user-supplied input before returning it to users. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this, via a malicious attachment with a modified `mimeType` parameter, to execute arbitrary script code in a user's browser session.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Atlassian Confluence version 6.14.3, 6.15.5 or later.
