Amazon Linux AMI : expat (ALAS-2020-1364)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 136625

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of expat installed on the remote host is prior to 2.1.0-11.22. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS-2020-1364 advisory.

Buffer overflow in the XML parser in Mozilla Firefox before 38.0, Firefox ESR 31.x before 31.7, and Thunderbird before 31.7 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by providing a large amount of compressed XML data, a related issue toCVE-2015-1283. (CVE-2015-2716)

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the tested product security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update expat' to update your system.
