Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of telnet installed on the remote host is prior to 0.17-49.9. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS-2020-1387 advisory.

 utility.c in telnetd in netkit telnet through 0.17 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via short writes or urgent data, because of a buffer overflow involving the netclear and nextitem functions.

Run 'yum update telnet' to update your system.
