MySQL Enterprise Monitor 4.x < 4.0.8 / 8.x < 8.0.14 DoS (Jan 2019 CPU)

high Nessus Plugin ID 138902

Synopsis

MySQL Enterprise Monitor running on the remote host is affected by a denial of service vulnerability

Description

A denial of service (DoS) vulnerability exists in MySQL Enterprise Monitor due to the version of OpenSSL used. During key agreement in a TLS handshake using a DH(E) based ciphersuite a malicious server can send a very large prime value to the client. This will cause the client to spend an unreasonably long period of time generating a key for this prime resulting in a hang until the client has finished. This can be exploited to cause a DoS.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to MySQL Enterprise Monitor version 4.0.8, 8.0.14 or later as referenced in the Oracle security advisory.
