Amazon Linux 2 : python (ALAS-2020-1483)

high Nessus Plugin ID 140198

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of python installed on the remote host is prior to 2.7.18-1. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2020-1483 advisory.

In Lib/tarfile.py in Python through 3.8.3, an attacker is able to craft a TAR archive leading to an infinite loop when opened by tarfile.open, because _proc_pax lacks header validation. (CVE-2019-20907)

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the tested product security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update python' to update your system.
