Atlassian Jira < 7.13.16 / 8.x < 8.5.7 / 8.6.x < 8.12.0 User Enumeration (JRASERVER-71560)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 140769

Synopsis

The remote web server hosts a web application that is affected by a user enumeration vulnerability.

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the instance of Atlassian Jira hosted on the remote web server is prior to 7.3.16, or is 8.x < 8.5.7, or 8.6.x < 8.12.0. It is, therefore, affected by an information disclosure vulnerability.
An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this, via the /ViewUserHover.jspa endpoint, in order to enumerate users.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Atlassian Jira version 7.13.16, 8.5.7, 8.12.0 or later
