IBM WebSphere Application Server 7.0.0.x < 7.0.0.45 / 8.0.0.x < 8.0.0.14 / 8.5.x < 8.5.5.13 / 9.0.x < 9.0.0.5 HTTP Response Splitting (CVE-2017-1503)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 141919

Synopsis

The remote web application server is affected by a HTTP response splitting vulnerability

Description

The IBM WebSphere Application Server running on the remote host is version 7.0.0.x through 7.0.0.43, 8.0.0.x prior to 8.0.0.14, 8.5.0.x prior to 8.5.5.13 or 9.0.x prior to 9.0.0.5. It is, therefore, affected by an HTTP response splitting vulnerability. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this, by using a specially crafted URL to cause the server to return a split response once the URL is clicked. The attacker could then perform further attacks.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to IBM WebSphere Application Server 7.0.0.45, 8.0.0.14, 8.5.5.13, 9.0.0.5, or later. Alternatively, upgrade to the minimal fix pack levels required by the interim fix and then apply Interim Fix PI82587.
