Amazon Linux 2 : exiv2 (ALAS-2020-1512)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 141967

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of exiv2 installed on the remote host is prior to 0.27.0-3. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2020-1512 advisory.

An out of bounds read vulnerability was discovered in the way exiv2 parses Canon raw format (CRW) images.
An application that uses exiv2 library to parse untrusted images may be vulnerable to this flaw, which could be used by an attacker to extract data from the application's memory or make it crash. The biggest threat with this vulnerability is availability of the system. (CVE-2019-17402)

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the tested product security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update exiv2' to update your system.
