Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 16.04 LTS / 18.04 LTS / 20.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-4653-1 advisory.

 It was discovered that access controls for the shims API socket did not restrict access to the abstract unix domain socket in some cases. An attacker could use this vulnerability to run containers with elevated privileges.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected containerd package.
