Ubuntu 20.04 LTS : Linux kernel vulnerabilities (USN-4678-1)

high Nessus Plugin ID 144751

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 20.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the USN-4678-1 advisory.

It was discovered that the AMD Running Average Power Limit (RAPL) driver in the Linux kernel did not properly restrict access to power data. A local attacker could possibly use this to expose sensitive information. (CVE-2020-12912)

Jann Horn discovered that the io_uring subsystem in the Linux kernel did not properly perform reference counting in some situations. A local attacker could use this to expose sensitive information or possibly escalate privileges. (CVE-2020-29534)

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected kernel package.
