Debian DLA-2526-1 : ruby-redcarpet security update

medium Nessus Plugin ID 145217

Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security update.

Description

In Redcarpet before version 3.5.1, there is an injection vulnerability which can enable a cross-site scripting attack.

In affected versions, no HTML escaping was being performed when processing quotes. This applies even when the `:escape_html` option was being used.

For Debian 9 stretch, this problem has been fixed in version 3.3.4-2+deb9u1.

We recommend that you upgrade your ruby-redcarpet packages.

For the detailed security status of ruby-redcarpet please refer to its security tracker page at:
https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/ruby-redcarpet

NOTE: Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the DLA security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Upgrade the affected ruby-redcarpet package.
