Synopsis

The remote web application server is affected by information disclosure vulnerability.

Description

The IBM WebSphere Application Server running on the remote host is version 7.0.0.0 through 7.0.0.45, 8.0.0.0 through 8.0.0.15, 8.5.0.0 through to 8.5.5.18, or 9.0.0.0 through 9.0.5.6. It is, therefore, affected by an XML External Entity (XXE) injection vulnerability when processing XML data. A remote, unauthenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability in order to expose sensitive information or consume memory resources.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to IBM WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.19, 9.0.5.7, or later. Alternatively, upgrade to the minimal fix pack levels required by the interim fix and then apply Interim Fix PH31727.
