Amazon Linux 2 : python-pip (ALAS-2021-1639)

high Nessus Plugin ID 149875

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2021-1639 advisory.

The pip package before 19.2 for Python allows Directory Traversal when a URL is given in an install command, because a Content-Disposition header can have ../ in a filename, as demonstrated by overwriting the /root/.ssh/authorized_keys file. This occurs in _download_http_url in _internal/download.py.
(CVE-2019-20916)

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the tested product security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update python-pip' to update your system.
