openSUSE 15 Security Update : pam_radius (openSUSE-SU-2021:1896-1)

high Nessus Plugin ID 151683

Language:

Synopsis

The remote SUSE host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote SUSE Linux SUSE15 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the openSUSE-SU-2021:1896-1 advisory.

- add_password in pam_radius_auth.c in pam_radius 1.4.0 does not correctly check the length of the input password, and is vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow during memcpy(). An attacker could send a crafted password to an application (loading the pam_radius library) and crash it. Arbitrary code execution might be possible, depending on the application, C library, compiler, and other factors. (CVE-2015-9542)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected pam_radius and / or pam_radius-32bit packages.
