Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security-related update.

Description

The remote Debian 9 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the dla-2749 advisory.

- A heap-based buffer overflow in _cairo_image_surface_create_from_jpeg() in extensions/cairo_io/cairo- image-surface-jpeg.c in GNOME gThumb before 3.8.3 and Linux Mint Pix before 2.4.5 allows attackers to cause a crash and potentially execute arbitrary code via a crafted JPEG file. (CVE-2019-20326)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the gthumb packages.

For Debian 9 stretch, this problem has been fixed in version 3
