Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 16.04 ESM host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-5243-2 advisory.

 USN-5243-1 fixed a vulnerability in aide. This update provides the corresponding update for Ubuntu 14.04 ESM and Ubuntu 16.04 ESM.

 Original advisory details:

 David Bouman discovered that AIDE incorrectly handled base64 operations. A

 local attacker could use this issue to cause AIDE to crash, resulting in a

 denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
