Oracle Linux 7 / 8 : Unbreakable Enterprise kernel (ELSA-2022-9365)

high Nessus Plugin ID 160898

Synopsis

The remote Oracle Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote Oracle Linux 7 / 8 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ELSA-2022-9365 advisory.

- Improper input validation in some Intel(R) Ethernet E810 Adapter drivers for Linux before version 1.0.4 and before version 1.4.29.0 for Windows*, may allow an authenticated user to potentially enable a denial of service via local access. (CVE-2020-24502)

- Insufficient access control in some Intel(R) Ethernet E810 Adapter drivers for Linux before version 1.0.4 may allow an authenticated user to potentially enable information disclosure via local access.
(CVE-2020-24503)

- Uncontrolled resource consumption in some Intel(R) Ethernet E810 Adapter drivers for Linux before version 1.0.4 may allow an authenticated user to potentially enable denial of service via local access.
(CVE-2020-24504)

- A flaw was found in the Linux kernel in net/netfilter/nf_tables_core.c:nft_do_chain, which can cause a use-after-free. This issue needs to handle 'return' with proper preconditions, as it can lead to a kernel information leak problem caused by a local, unprivileged attacker. (CVE-2022-1016)

- A flaw was found in KVM. When updating a guest's page table entry, vm_pgoff was improperly used as the offset to get the page's pfn. As vaddr and vm_pgoff are controllable by user-mode processes, this flaw allows unprivileged local users on the host to write outside the userspace region and potentially corrupt the kernel, resulting in a denial of service condition. (CVE-2022-1158)

- pep_sock_accept in net/phonet/pep.c in the Linux kernel through 5.15.8 has a refcount leak.
(CVE-2021-45095)

- A use-after-free exists in the Linux Kernel in tc_new_tfilter that could allow a local attacker to gain privilege escalation. The exploit requires unprivileged user namespaces. We recommend upgrading past commit 04c2a47ffb13c29778e2a14e414ad4cb5a5db4b5 (CVE-2022-1055)

- A heap buffer overflow flaw was found in IPsec ESP transformation code in net/ipv4/esp4.c and net/ipv6/esp6.c. This flaw allows a local attacker with a normal user privilege to overwrite kernel heap objects and may cause a local privilege escalation threat. (CVE-2022-27666)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
