critical Nessus Plugin ID 162424

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 18.04 LTS / 20.04 LTS / 22.04 LTS host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-5488-1 advisory.

Chancen and Daniel Fiala discovered that OpenSSL incorrectly handled the c_rehash script. A local attacker could possibly use this issue to execute arbitrary commands when c_rehash is run.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
