Ubuntu 18.04 LTS / 20.04 LTS : Apache XML Security for Java vulnerability (USN-5525-1)

high Nessus Plugin ID 163302

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 18.04 LTS / 20.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-5525-1 advisory.

It was discovered that Apache XML Security for Java incorrectly passed a configuration property when creating specific key elements. This allows an attacker to abuse an XPath Transform to extract sensitive information.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected libxml-security-java package.
