Debian DLA-3139-1 : knot-resolver - LTS security update

high Nessus Plugin ID 165789

Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security-related update.

Description

The remote Debian 10 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the dla-3139 advisory.

- Knot Resolver before 5.5.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) because of algorithmic complexity. During an attack, an authoritative server must return large NS sets or address sets. (CVE-2022-40188)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the knot-resolver packages.

For Debian 10 Buster, these problems have been fixed in version 3.2.1-3+deb10u1.
