Synopsis

The remote Slackware Linux host is missing a security update to expat.

Description

The version of expat installed on the remote host is prior to 2.4.3 / 2.5.0. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SSA:2022-298-01 advisory.

- In libexpat through 2.4.9, there is a use-after free caused by overeager destruction of a shared DTD in XML_ExternalEntityParserCreate in out-of-memory situations. (CVE-2022-43680)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the affected expat package.
