Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security-related update.

Description

The remote Debian 11 host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the dsa-5267 advisory.

- The Keccak XKCP SHA-3 reference implementation before fdc6fef has an integer overflow and resultant buffer overflow that allows attackers to execute arbitrary code or eliminate expected cryptographic properties.
This occurs in the sponge function interface. (CVE-2022-37454)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the pysha3 packages.

For the stable distribution (bullseye), this problem has been fixed in version 1.0.2-4.1+deb11u1.
