Synopsis

The Microsoft Visual Studio Products are affected by multiple vulnerabilities.

Description

The Microsoft Visual Studio Products are missing security updates. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities:

- A remote code execution vulnerability. An attacker can exploit Heap Overflow vulnerbaility in Visual Studio to bypass authentication and execute unauthorized arbitrary commands. (CVE-2022-41119)

- An information disclosure vulnerability. Local clone optimization dereferences symbolic links by default and may cause an exposure of sensitive information to a malicious actor. (CVE-2022-39253)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Microsoft has released the following security updates to address this issue:
- Update 15.9.51 for Visual Studio 2017
- Update 16.11.21 for Visual Studio 2019
- Update 17.0.16 for Visual Studio 2022
- Update 17.2.10 for Visual Studio 2022
- Update 17.4 for Visual Studio 2022
