Synopsis

The remote SUSE host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote SUSE Linux SLES12 / SLES_SAP12 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SUSE-SU-2023:0093-1 advisory.

- Python Packaging Authority (PyPA) setuptools before 65.5.1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via HTML in a crafted package or custom PackageIndex page. There is a Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) in package_index.py. (CVE-2022-40897)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected python-setuptools and / or python3-setuptools packages.
