Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 16.04 ESM / 18.04 LTS / 20.04 LTS / 22.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-5820-1 advisory.

 Lorenz Hipp discovered a flaw in exuberant-ctags handling of the tag

 filename command-line argument. A crafted tag filename specified

 in the command line or in the configuration file could result in

 arbitrary command execution.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected exuberant-ctags package.
